Massimo Mauro believes Jonathan David is a talented striker, but he does not think the Canadian forward is at the level required to succeed at Juventus.
The Bianconeri signed David as a free agent at the beginning of last season after he allowed his contract at Lille to expire. Juventus considered the move to be a major success at the time, particularly because several clubs from around the world were interested in securing his signature.
To convince the striker to move to Turin, Juventus reportedly offered him a contract worth €6 million net per season. The club viewed him as one of the best attacking options available on the market and expected him to become a key figure in their squad.
Juventus Facing Concerns Over Their Attack
David arrived at the Allianz Stadium as the player expected to replace Dusan Vlahovic, who continues to be linked with a move away from Juventus. However, the Serbian striker has since shown that he remains the stronger option between the two forwards, and there are now growing concerns within the club over the possibility of losing him.
Juventus are reportedly prepared to consider offers for David if a suitable proposal is received. The club are said to be open to a sale, especially because his departure would generate a capital gain following his arrival on a free transfer.
Despite the criticism surrounding his performances, Mauro still acknowledged that David possesses quality as a striker. However, he insisted that the forward is more suited to clubs operating at a lower competitive level than Juventus.
Mauro Questions David’s Suitability
As quoted by Tuttomercatoweb, Mauro said: “There are players who are fit for Juve and those who aren’t. I’m not saying David is bad, but he’s a player who should be at Lille, Fiorentina, Atalanta… That level.
“Juve demands more, Juve demands men. My Juve wouldn’t have failed in those two matches, not because of their technical qualities, which were also enormous, but because there were men before footballers.”
The former midfielder’s comments reflect the growing debate surrounding David’s future at Juventus as the club continues to assess the direction of their squad ahead of the new season.
