Thiago Motta is reportedly set for a return to management after Strasbourg identified him as one of the candidates to become the club’s next head coach.
The former midfielder is understood to be eager to return to the dugout as soon as possible following his departure from Juventus. His potential appointment elsewhere would also be welcomed in Turin because Juventus remain responsible for paying his salary under the terms of his existing contract.
Juventus Still Paying Motta’s Salary
Motta signed a deal running until the summer of 2027 when he joined Juventus in 2024, but he was dismissed at the beginning of 2025 after a disappointing spell in charge.
The Bianconeri continue to carry the financial burden of his contract and are therefore hoping he secures a new role before the agreement expires.
Juventus have since moved forward under Luciano Spalletti, who has impressed since taking charge and brought renewed optimism to the club following a difficult period.
However, the financial impact of Motta’s dismissal remains an issue behind the scenes as the club continues paying the former manager’s wages.
Strasbourg Considering Motta Appointment
According to Calciomercato, Strasbourg have several candidates on their shortlist, with Motta among the leading names currently being considered for the role.
The French club reportedly believe he could be a strong fit for the position due to his tactical approach and previous experience in European football.
No final decision has yet been made regarding the appointment, although Motta’s inclusion on the shortlist has placed Juventus on alert, as they hope a new managerial role would finally end their wage obligations.
A return to management could also provide Motta with the opportunity to rebuild his reputation after his difficult period in Turin and begin a fresh chapter in his coaching career at another European club.
