Guglielmo Vicario and Zion Suzuki are two goalkeepers Juventus are targeting during this summer’s transfer window, and one of them could make the move to Turin.
Michele Di Gregorio’s time as the Bianconeri’s first choice appears to be coming to an end after failing to convince Luciano Spalletti. The Juventus manager is believed to want a new goalkeeper and has reportedly identified Vicario and Suzuki as his preferred options.
Juventus Assess Goalkeeping Options
Spalletti is understood to believe that both Vicario and Suzuki would represent an improvement on his current first choice. Juventus have therefore opened discussions as they explore the possibility of signing one of the two goalkeepers before the transfer window closes.
Vicario has informed Tottenham that he wants to leave, while Suzuki is also attracting strong interest from Paris Saint-Germain. The French champions are currently considered to be ahead of Juventus in the race to sign the Japanese international, making the situation increasingly competitive.
Buffon Shares His Opinion
Former Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has now discussed both players and, according to Calciomercato, said:
“I think the goalkeepers I read about are ultra,reliable. Vicario was with us in the national team for 3,4 years, won the Europa League with Tottenham, and had significant experience in the Premier League. He offers ample guarantees. The difference between him and Suzuki? First of all, age. Then there are other differences that I know about, but which I don’t think it’s nice to say publicly. These are gratuitous things that one can avoid: I know I’m not the last idiot in football, a word of mine could influence and displease someone.”
Buffon enjoyed one of the most successful goalkeeping careers in football and has first-hand knowledge of the qualities required to succeed at the highest level. His assessment of both players is therefore likely to attract attention as Juventus continue evaluating their options before deciding which goalkeeper to pursue.
