Nicolas Gonzalez reminded everyone of his quality as an attacker when he came off the bench to help Juventus beat Parma at the weekend, and attention has now turned towards his future at Juve.

Reports had suggested that he did not want to play for the Bianconeri again and was pushing to return to Atletico Madrid, where he spent last season on loan. The Spanish side attempted to sign him permanently at the end of last season, but they could not reach an agreement with Juventus and have since cooled their interest.

This is not an ideal situation for the attacker, who now appears set to remain in Turin because there are no other clubs attempting to sign him. Juventus have also lost Kenan Yildiz to injury, making it even more important for the Bianconeri to retain their best players as the transfer window approaches its conclusion.

Gonzalez could remain at Juve

The Bianconeri would be eager to keep their strongest players in the squad, particularly because they may not have enough time to replace them before the window closes. Gonzalez could therefore have an important role to play for the club.

The attacker is a top player and could find greater consistency under Luciano Spalletti, something he lacked during his previous spell at Juventus. His performance against Parma could also provide encouragement that he can contribute significantly to the team.

Martorelli backs Gonzalez

Pundit Giocondo Martorelli believes Juventus should carefully consider whether selling Gonzalez would benefit the squad, particularly if they cannot find a suitable replacement.

He said via Tuttojuve:

“The Juventus management certainly doesn’t make decisions based on individual matches, but great teams need great players, and if you sell Nico Gonzalez, you then have to figure out how to replace him, otherwise it’s better to keep him.”

Those comments underline the importance of Juventus maintaining squad depth, especially after losing Yildiz. Even if Gonzalez had previously wanted to leave, his quality could make keeping him the more sensible option.

With the transfer window closing, Juventus may have little choice but to retain Gonzalez. If Spalletti can help him find consistency, the attacker could still become an important player for the Bianconeri this season.
